Local Business Coordinator


The Local Business Coordinator provides planning, strategic thinking, community engagement, administrative, and communication support to the Board of Directors and members of Mount Rainier Business Association (MRBA).  The work is an estimated 10 hours per week and requires use of own computer.  A shared office space is provided within a local business. The person will serve as an independent contractor.


MRBA is an independent, nonprofit association that represents the businesses and commercial property owners of Mount Rainier.  Home-based businesses, consultants and artists may become associate members.  MRBA works closely with the Mount Rainier city government and its departments to support mutual business and economic development goals. 


The following duties include but not limited to support operations, member engagement, and communications to ensure a productive association and to facilitate economic development in the city of Mount Rainier:


1.       Support Board meetings

a.       Prepare agenda, attend and write minutes to monthly Member Engagement meetings, 2nd Wednesday of the month from 8:30-10:00am and Board of Directors meetings, 4th Wednesday of the month from 9:00-10:30am.

b.       Manage meeting and event set up needs

c.       Ensure meeting minutes are completed, published and shared

d.       Meet and communicate with Executive Committee on a regular basis

e.       Implement action steps determined by the Board of Directors to support annual budget and program goals

2.       Provide communication to membership

a.       Create a bi-weekly email for members to share business and city related information, meeting notices, opportunities

b.       Visit member businesses as needed

c.       Update website and social media on a regular basis

3.       Coordinate program activities

a.       Coordinate and conduct action steps for a public safety committee

b.       Marketing campaigns: coordinate and implement seasonal and thematic campaigns to encourage patronage to businesses

c.       Assist in communication for beautification efforts and services

d.       Liaison with city staff as needed to achieve program and project goals

4.       Assist Board to maintain legal and administrative documents for organization, including but not limited to annual tax forms, reports, and budgets.

5.       Assist with research and application for grants.




•    Proficient use of Word and Excel

•    Knowledge of social media platforms, such as Instagram and Facebook

•    Excellent communication skills

•    Experience in business or economic development

•    Community-oriented


Compensation is $25 - $30 per hour relative to experience.
